At the joint venture "BYD Uzbekistan Factory" in the Jizzakh region, the production of the first electric vehicles has begun. The factory's capacity allows for the production of 50,000 cars per year, with investments in the first phase of the project amounting to $160 million, according to the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.
Currently, the "BYD Uzbekistan Factory" produces the Chazor and Song Plus Champion models. In the coming years, the factory plans to expand its model range. As part of the second phase of the project, valued at $300 million, production is expected to increase to 200,000 electric vehicles per year. In the third phase, valued at $500 million, production is expected to reach 500,000 cars annually. Currently, the factory employs 1,200 people, and when the factory reaches its maximum capacity, the number of jobs will grow to 10,000.
As previously reported by "AUTOSTAT," the electric vehicle segment is growing rapidly and reached 10% of the total automotive market in Uzbekistan in the first quarter of 2024. After record sales set in 2023, the beginning of 2024 was also exceptional: sales in the first quarter reached 89,938 units (+26.8%).
